Wanted: More "Cycling SuperFans"
I was dusting off my cow bells and "essential "and assorted noise makin' paraphenalia as any good cycling fan should have readily available for race watching or any special OLN TV marathon weeks. . . .

. . . and I thought to myself . . . Perhaps this is part of the reason American Cycling hasn't taken off "as big here" as in Europe"? We need to grow more "avid" cycling fans here in the states. I'm talking about "true pitch fork carryin', leg shaven, flag wearin', groupie like cycling superfans!" Soccer has them in Europe . . . . American football surely has them . . . and it seems Europeans have gotten it right once again when it comes to cycling.
Lemond started it off and now Armstrong, Tyler, Julich, & Barry have done a lot once again to elevate American Cycling to the forefront of the general American public that doesn't typically follow our great sport. But the athletes can't do it all . . . Now it's time for the fans to do our part and take our game to the next level as well.
So with this knowledge in hand . . . I challenge you to pull out your halloween costume or jet over to the face paint store before your next local cycling event and show some pride for our sport. This pride brings with it character and draws other folks in to have a closer look; ie - "there must be something special here with this cycling thing if a guy's running up hill in some little red ridinghood tighties with devil horns on and pitchfork in blistering hot conditions yelling viva Lance!" That's the kind of buzz we need to create at US events!

Heck, he's even sponsored! How cool is that?!
America needs some of our own "CYCLING SUPERFANS" to help cycling grow. And if you can't bring yourself to where "Jelly Belly" face paint, atleast throw on a Livestrong bracelet and a postal hat, slip a cow bell in your front pocket (trust me, the cycling chix will dig it) and make it out to cheer at the next cycling event in your area.
AND try and bring a friend to introduce them to our sport and how fun it can be to watch it. A few more fans will make our sport a better race!
